Owner Spotlight:Gary Vlug

By  Gary Vulg |   | Posted in " Asset Division, Child Custody, Child Maintenance, Divorce, Separation Agreement "

I’m Gary Vlug, proud owner of Gary Vlug, Barrister and Solicitor.

I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

The part of my work which I find most enjoyable is meeting people and hearing their life stories.

I’m in business to provide non-judgmental service. I understand that dealing with legal issues related to divorce, child custody and family law can be stressful. That’s why I treat my clients with respect.

I grew up and went to school on the British Columbia Coast.

I’ve been in business for 25 years. My office is centrally located rather than downtown; so as to provide a conveniently accessible service.

My responsibilities vary. Most importantly, I handle all cases from start to finish. This means that that as an experienced professional, I’m in charge at all times.

A typical day involves answering a lot of email communication. My clients have concerns; so I can be dealing with immediate problems people are having such as: "My spouse wants to take our child for a visit. I worry whether my spouse will return our child to me. What do I do?” In cases like these; I counsel my my clients on their options in difficult situations and help them find the best solutions. I usually work eight and a half hours daily. I see some clients by appointment two days a week.

The most important decisions I face regularly are firstly, about on taking on new clients and secondly, how to best allocate financial resources for the maximum benefit of the business. The three top skills I rely upon to perform my job well are: intelligence, research and effort. I attribute my success to my determination and tenacity. I never quit.

The most satisfying accomplishment for me is knowing that I have a positive influence on children growing up.

My personal leadership style has been strongly influenced by my Grandparents who I admired greatly. My development as a leader has also been guided by many of the coaches who I encountered in my life filled with sports.

A person and organization which I admire is John-Paul Boyd, Family Law. He is a speaker, teacher and advocate for family law who cares about providing service to people without being preoccupied about money.

Away from work I seek adventure and meet people with Outward Bound and the activities and programs they lead here in beautiful British Columbia.

I support the Salvation Army in its outreach programs to the Downtown's Lower East Side. I have participated in the Salvation Army Pro-bono program. I believe there are still elitist elements within our justice system that need to be corrected.

My personal values include that people should have access to information. Life should not be only for the elite. Injustices result when basic information is denied to average people. I also believe that “One should do their best, worry about things which you can influence, and not get caught up with the rest.”

I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.

If you, or someone you know could benefit from our personal attention with trusted and affordable legal services in Vancouver and Abbotsford, I invite you to get in touch.

Sincerely,

Gary
